Singing Lessons

Joanna teaches privately at home but will also travel if necessary. She tutors on a One to One Basis or with Small Groups. Her singing lessons are Very Relaxed and a Lot of Fun; always focused on singing for pleasure whilst building a solid technique.

Private Lessons

A typical lesson will comprise of exercises designed to improve breath control, tone, articulation, resonance, rhythm, pitch and vocal range, and then applying these techniques to songs. Joanna has a large library of backing tracks from which to select suitable material, and is adept at choosing just the right song for the right singer! She is a believer in singing from the heart, therefore encouraging her pupils to find the emotion and dynamics of a song as well as being able to communicate and present themselves in front of an audience. She also has the facility to record.

Joanna is very experienced at taking workshops with small or large groups. Whether it be a mini musical in a day, a session in technique and presentation, staging a concert concluding in a performance, drama games or karaoke sessions, her strengths in motivating others produce amazing results! These workshops would be suitable for extra curricular sessions in schools, corporate team building, fun days at summer schools or something different for an amateur musical society.

I have a long line of loyal students who have been coming to lessons for many years and am happy to say I have been instrumental in several students successfully gaining places at London Stage schools, students being cast in leading roles in theatre productions (amateur and professional) one student who progressed through five rounds of Britain’s Got Talent, and another who recently featured in the live shows of the X Factor. I have seen extraordinary transformations in people and I believe my success as a teacher comes from my love of singing, technical knowhow, my insight into being a performer, my personal relationship with each student and my ability to help people relax and enjoy their voices.

She does not nag and she is not scary! Having built up a regular clientele, she prides herself in having a great relationship with every single pupil. Whether wanting to sing karaoke, surprise your family, audition for a West End show, sing in the bath, win the X Factor or just build up confidence enough to belt out a good tune, her lessons are thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial to anyone who has ever wanted to develop their singing voice.

schools & teachers

Jo has worked a lot in schools, whether as a visiting teacher running musical theatre workshops or teaching “voice shy” teachers how to teach their pupils, by explaining the physiology of the voice, supplying warm up exercises and repertoire ideas. She is regularly hired by Waltham Forest Council to supply summer workshops for primary school children during the summer holidays and can devise shows, and simple vocal arrangements. Jo is DBS checked and listed by Essex Music Services as one of their recommended singing teachers.

If a home visit is required an extra travel/time fee will apply.

24 HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations within 24 hours will incur a charge of 50% of the lesson fee.
